2 Sketches 4 You 1st Annual Ultimate Card Showdown!

2 Sketches 4 You is one of the sites that provides sketches on a weekly basis. They are currently running their first annual Ultimate Card Showdown contest. This is week one of the competition and they will be choosing 30 finalists. Over time they will narrow the finalists down until they get to the Ultimate winner! I am going to give this a go and see what happens! To see more about this contest you can visit their site HERE. And if you don't follow the site already, please start because Kazan and Laura offer wonderful sketches each week to use.

There are great prizes offered throughout the competition from some wonderful companies like...

  • Scor-It
  • Zutter Innovative Products
  • Teresa Collins
  • Starving Artists Stamps
  • Sulyn Industries
  • Clearsnap
  • Inky Antics Rubber Stamps
  • Sakura of America

Here is the sketch that they provided...

And here is the card I created based on Laura's sketch...

Belated Birthday

DP: Basic Grey (Mellow); CS: Georgia Pacific; Stamps: Stampin Up!; Ribbon: Martha Stewart, Ink: Copics; Pencils: Prismacolors; Brads: Basic Grey; Border punches: Martha Stewart; Techniques: Paper piercing.

The turtle is colored with prismacolors and copics (shadow only) and layered for dimension. The green strip is hand stamped with birthday hat images to coordinate with the hat that the turtle is wearing.

I really wanted to create something like a mini-book so that I could use Zutter's Bind-it-All on my submission, but I wasn't sure if making something other than a card was OK! So, as an add-on I also want to show you the mini-album that I made.

Here is the cover of the mini album I made called "My Time with Timmy {Tree}bow! The cover uses the same sketch shown above.

Timmy is a little squirrel that my daughter's boyfriend found that was orphaned and needed rescuing. I made this album for Leah as a tribute to the special bond that they formed. It was very difficult for her to raise Timmy, become very close with him, and have to let him loose in the wild when he was able to care for himself.

None of the other pages use the sketch for the contest, but feel free to scroll down and see the rest of the album if you choose!

The album started out as four coasters that I "borrowed" then altered from Outback!

All of the stamps used are from Unity!

Here are the first and second pages opened up.

Close up of page one.

Close up of page two.
Journaling says: In October of 2008, Donnie rescued Timmy from his backyard. He (Timmy) was just a baby who wasn't weaned yet and he was cold, alone and infested with fleas and mites. He (Donnie) knew that Leah wanted to raise a squirrel.

Here are the third and fourth pages opened up.

Close up of page three.
Journaling says: A love affair ensued! Leah became a surrogate mother. She nursed Timmy back to health while surviving frequent feedings, vet visits and many squirrely antics! Timmy survived seizures from low calcium, a severed tail after a dog attack and learning how to open his own nuts!

Close up of page four.

Here are pages five and six opened up.

Close up of page five.

Close up of page six.

Journaling says: Since Leah was attending UF (University of FL) while carding for Timmy, it was easy to name him after their star quarterback, Tim Tebow! With a play on words, the adorable little squirrel became Timmy TREEbow!

Close up of last page.

Journaling says: Leah cared for Timmy for three months. When she was sure he could care for himself in the wild, he was released in her Dr's backyard where there were plenty of other squirrel friends for him to play with. He was released in early January 2009.

My Time with Timmy Treebow Mini Album:

DP: Crate Paper (Lil Sprout); Stamps: Unity, Cover: Tiny Giggle Grove; Page 1 and 2: Mushrooms (May KOM), Journaling block (Sept KOM), Shade Tree; Page 3 and 4: So and So Loves, I Love You (April KOM); Tree cluster with hearts (Sept KOM), Last page: Burberry Tree; Assorted Embellishments: Colorbok (Friendly Forest); Ribbon: Martha Stewart and American Crafts; Ink: SU (Close to Cocoa); Computer generated journaling (font: O Whoa DNA); Pencils: Prismacolor; Markers: Copics; Binding: Zutter, Bind-it-All.

If you stuck it out this long.... thanks for looking!

Have a great night and may your bucket overflow with the willingness to help all of God's creatures!
