so I decided to share my idea with you here too!!
My Fresh Idea for you is to use parts of Store Bought cards that you have been given in the past to enhance your Hand Made cards!

Usually for my Friends With Flair Friday posts I like to be kind of upbeat, but today it is a little hard because of the reason I had to make this card. My co-workers and I learned yesterday that one of our practitioner's lost her husband in a car accident on Wednesday evening! It is such a sad time and I never feel like I know the right thing to do or say!
So the thing that comes easiest to me at a time like this is to make a card. I tried really hard to make a card that will show her how much I care and hopefully give her some comfort. I used the beautiful Bevy of Butterflies set from Unity and some of the new DP's from October Afternoon. These OA papers are beginning to become a real favorite of mine. I can't wait until I can purchase more of it!
I started with an off white card base and added the 3 x 4 inch paper sample from the soon to be released Thrift Shop lineof paper from October Afternoon in the right upper corner. Then I counter balanced that with a swatch of the same sized piece of black CS in the bottom left hand corner. The look I was going for was a Vintage/ Victorian look. I added some distressing to the edges of the some of the panels and used embellishments that were cream
One of the butterflies was stamped onto more OA paper and a strip of small half pearls that I lightly aged with some Copics was added to the center for the body.
The image panel uses the same CS as the base. I stamped the plant silhouette and sentiment from the sameBevy of Butterflies set. I lightly sponged over the silhouette with Versamagic wheat colored chalk ink to reduce some of the harshness of the cream color. I liked my end product, but just wish I didn't need to send a sympathy card. My heart is heavy for my friend.

Yesterday I was fortunate to NOT get called in to work so it gave me a lot of time in my scraproom. I started by putting all my leftover supplies away that I had used recently. Then, with a cleared desk there was nothing else to do but make it dirty again!! LOL!
While blurfing around yesterday I ran across Lori Craig's post HERE, who referenced Taylor VanBruggen's postHERE about this card drive that is going on for a wonderful cause that is close to my heart. Many of you know that I work with babies! Well my official title is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. What that means is that I am an advanced practice nurse who takes care of sick babies. I know all too well about the struggles of parents as they deal with the loss of a baby. Thankfully I don't work in the NICU right now, so I don't see as many losses as I used to, but you never forget the grief of a parent once you have seen it.
So when I heard that they were having a Dragonfly Card Drive to collect cards to give to bereaved parents who have suffered a loss of a pregnancy or a baby, I knew that I wanted to help out!
I made three "girl" cards yesterday and will work on some "boy" ones today! The cards are supposed to have a Dragonfly on them because that is their symbol of hope for the parents who have suffered a loss.
I took the opportunity to continue using more SCS sketches as I continue on in my journey to use ALL the sketches from the Master List at SCS! I really love sketch challenges and it is great to have a card idea already laid out so all I have to do is play around with the elements! :-)
I made two of the same card that came from Sketch number SC11...
Here are the cards following that sketch...
The Dragonflies are from a border stamp by Katie & Co. The Sentiment and Footprints stamp are from PaperTrey Ink'sWith Sympathy: Loss of Child set. The DP is from MM and is actually scraps from a previous project that I thought looked sweet and soft for a baby. The border punch is called Loops from MS.
To make the footprints become the soft pink like that, I stamped them with my Versamark watermark ink and then rubbed pink Inkadinkadoo chalk over the top of it. It allows the image to be colored in a soft pastel, but still lets the words read through beautifully. I also chalked the edges of the sentiment panel.
I designed this card so that the tag could be removed to show the baby's information on the back. The Dragonfly and flower silhouettes are from Unity's May09 KOM.
This sentiment is from the same PTI set called With Sympathy: Loss of Child. One confession I have to make is that the subtle stamping of the words and the silhouettes below the sentiment is NOT intentional. I had the whole card done when I finally stamped the sentiment on this layer and of course I DROPPED my inky stamp right onto my project and it bounced twice. It left a subtle stamping of the sentiment. I wanted to cry because that was the last of the striped DP and it was otherwise ruined. So instead of tossing the whole thing, I decided to [try and] make it looks like it was on PURPOSE!! And above is the result of the finished product. While not perfect, I think I was able to salvage it!

And on the back of the tag I used this AmuseBaby Announcement tag so the parents could fill out the information about their baby and keep this tag as a keepsake and reminder. Having been with many parents after a loss, I know that they truly enjoy the mementos they can have of their babies. Where I work we always provide a picture (if they want one) of their baby all wrapped up and "resting" peacefully. After many years in the field, it doesn't get easier and I end up crying right along with the saddened parents and family members.

Now how about a quick attempt at comicsl relief after the deep topic we discussed above?
On the 20th of each month the Dirty Dozen Girls and DD Alumni are challenged to make a card. This month our hostess was none other than Jeanne Streiff who gave us a challenge called Funny Thing is... We were to make a card using our sense of humor and we were restricted from using any sparkles, glitter or the like!
The funny thing is really all contained within the sentiment that comes from this SU set called Sassy Suzie. I am in love with the red and yellow color combos that I keep seeing around the galleries and so I decided to do a card using those colors predominantly. This K & Co. paper was just the perfect find. I colored in my image using Copics. And added a dollar spot ribbon that I found at Target. The brads come from BG.
Can you read the sentiment from this closeup? It's a real hoot!! (Notice I didn't say Hooters!! LOL!!) The inside of the card says Happy Birthday!! It was a fun challenge that was relaxing to work on because I got to color!! :-)

Yeah! It's Thursday and I am on my fourth day of Growing in Unity! Thanks so much for those of you who have stopped by daily and left such sweet comments. Don't forget that tomorrow I will be drawing a name from all the comments left during my Growing in Unity week and will send some lucky commenter a grab bag of some Unity stamps!
Did you see on the Unity blog that there will be an opportunity to buy the January's CHA release stamps for a very limited time over this weekend. There are five sets that the Unity customers can by early... who does that??? Don't you just love Unity??
The card that I have to share with you for today is one of those unfortunate but necessary cards to have to make. It is a sympathy card. I have a dear friend who used to be on my DT when my partner and I ran the Wishblading Well and I learned today that her dog was just shot by some stranger while her husband was playing with her outside. I am so sad about that and can't imagine the grief they must be experiencing. The dog was only two years old and had a lot of life left in her. I can't imagine the motive that would cause someone to do such a thing.
So using the dragonfly stamp from Unity's October Stampin Store Kit and the "we care" sentiment from the Nov 08 KOMI went for a very simplistic look to this card. I was inspired first by the somewhat Asian look of the dragonfly stamp and decided to pair it with this beautiful Wisteria BG paper. I colored the images with my Copic Markers. I lightly colored the background with my new Copics Airbrush system to match.
I want to share with you some information about the yellow cardstock that you see used here. I received a wonderful package of papers from Cut Card Stock.com and this Coredinations paper was included in this package. This sheet comes in a set of pre-embossed CS in the Jenni Bowlin line by Coredinations. The 12 x 12 sheet was embossed around the outer edges similar to the shape of a Nesties Label 1. I chose to cut out around the embossing and use that shape as an accent on my card. I didn't want to sand it either, but I am sure you know that you can do that with Coredinations. I encourage you to check out Cut Card Stock.com, they have an awesome collection of papers with great prices and even a sale right now for their Facebook Fans.

Don't you feel sometimes that you could use a little inspiration? Doesn't your mojo leave you temporarily and you struggle to find just the right stamp to ink up or the right paper to use? Well thankfully SCS has designed a way to help us get out of those ruts and to find inspiration from other artists and websites. Every Saturday you can log into the SCS Inspiration Challenge Forumand find many ways to be inspired.
Last Saturday we were inspired by Bellacor Vasesthat can be found HERE. There were over 1500 vases to choose from and anyone could find something to inspire them. As soon as I saw this vase HERE, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I had found my inspiration!!
Here is the card that I created after being inspired by that Bellacor Vase.
I decided that not only do I need inspiration sometimes, but so do others who are struggling with one of life's toughest battles... the loss of a loved one. I kept this card clean and simple because when you are trying to comfort someone who is grieving, it is better to take the minimalist approach so the true sentiments can be felt. I used my Unity silhouette flowers from the Birdie Inspiration set and lengthened the stems using a Sharpie Fine tip marker.
When I created this card I was hoping that I could inspire someone going through a tough time and move their mind to a higher level of feeling loved by me. On the inside of the card I used a Stampin Up sympathy stamp that says...
May God's love
heal your sorrow, and may
His peace replace your
heartache with
warm and loving memories.
I also played along with yesterday's Inspiration Challenge IC193 that can be found HERE! This time we were to be inspired by an ecclectic online store called The Curiosity Shoppe. They had really neat ideas and I found lots of creations that I would want to CASE or borrow! I chose THESEEarrings as my inspiration.
When I saw them my mind went directly to Dawn McVey's Damask Designsstamps fromPTI and to the Ambrosia Collection by Basic Grey. So with the lace earrings as my inspiration, and the Damask stamps along with some BG, I was led and they led me to make this rather formal Birthday card...
I cut out one of my label nesties twice in one size and once in a large size. Then by turning one of them 45 degrees I was able to create this medallion like mat for my stamp. I decided to stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment right on top of the strip of Damask Designs. To finish it off I added four rhinestones to accent the center piece in the medallion.
Weather permitting my family and I are going to do some boating and jet skiing. Ricky will just be fishing since he is still supposed to be resting his eye. I am happy to say though that everday he is reporting that his vision is improving and his eye is hurting less. My daughter Leah made it back to Gainesville yesterday and is still in a little pain still but also doing better every day!

Sorry for being a bit MIA the past couple of days! I have been busy working on DT submissions that I can't show yet! And also I have been working on projects around the house and had a friend visit from south FL.
Today I got up early and while the rest of the family was still sleeping, I indulged myself by working on a card for today's Inspiration Challenge on SCS. It is IC186 and we were to find something from the "Charm School Drop Out's" work to be inspired by. You can see her Etsy Store HEREand THIS is the print of hers that inspired my card!
My card is titled Always Remember...
I decided that the white glowing circles around the dandelions made me think about halos and had a really serene feel to them, so I decided to use this as a sympathy card. I used BG DP and all the stamps are Unity. The flowers are from the August 08 kom, the bird on the branch is from the April 09 kom, and the sentiment is from the Confession: I love Unity set.
To make the circles around the flowers I used one of my Nestie circles to draw a circle with a pencil Then I traced the pencil lines with a white Prismacolor pencil and used Gamsol to blend it in towards the center. Then to highlight the white outline, I used my opaque white pen from Inkessentials to accent it.
I like how it came out and hope that it will be a comfort to the recipient when I have the need to send it out!
