Lovin From the Oven

Good Morning everyone! I hope you had a great holiday weekend!  I know that I did.  My scrap room was pretty close to perfection yesterday when I started working on my project, so now it is a little messy again!  Oh well!!  I will keep working on it!!  :-)

Today is the last day of November which means that it was my last time to post on the Unity blog as their Guest Designer!  You can see my post HERE (after 10 am CST) Sniff sniff!!  But thankfully I will still get to remain involved with that wonderful group of Unity people through {Ippity}!!  Yeah!!

For my last GD project, I decided to make a Recipe Book cover to hold all of our families' favorite recipes.  I am going to make three of them (maybe four!) One for each of my daughters and possibly my future daughter in law too!   The perfect Unity set for this project is called Kitchen Logic. You can't buy it right now, but it was available for a brief pre-release period, and will be available again in the spring after the Winter CHA in January!

I used the adorable stove image and the sentiment that says "Nothing says LOVIN' like something from the OVEN!"  Isn't that the cutest??  I paper pieced the kitchen towel and colored the rest of the image in with Copics.  The heart I drew free hand and then matted with a some more of the red DP.

I am so happy about how I made my cover too! I was being very green!  After I buy Unity stamps that come in those cute little brown recycled packages, I put them into CD cases that I keep on a CD rack near me.  I have been saving those packages since the beginning and I am getting quite a collection of them in my stash!  So I decided to use some of them to create my covers.  I cut them down to be a little larger than the 4 x 6 recipe cards that will go inside the books and I glued two of them together.  Then I used Modge Podge to coat the exteriors to keep them more waterproof since they will end up in the kitchen where it might be wet!  The title was stamped believe it or not with cheap stamps I picked up from the Dollar spot at Target.  Of all nights, my printer ran out of ink and I wasn't able to print the title out as I had originally intended!

I will make a picture tutorial for you and show you exactly how I made my covers in an upcoming post! :-)

The DP I used for this project came from the BG Nook and Pantry  line and also from Flair Designs "What's Cooking" line.  They both give a very warm homey feel and had great muted colors that went perfectly with the Kraft colored covers.  I added the three buttons for accents on top of the ribbon and lace trims that I chose.  I was going for the vintage cook book look with this project!  I hope that you like this and might be inspired to create a cook book or album of your own using some recycled packaging!

I will be back again with more inserts for this book as I create them.  I am thinking that this may end up being a Christmas gift for the girls if I can get them done in time.  I found some self-adhesive clear pockets that will fit 4 x 6 cards that can be adhered to the interior pages and allow the card to be removed for use and then replaced afterward for storage. I am really excited about sharing our favorite recipes with my girls and also giving them this book that I think they will cherish into their adult years!

I hope you have a wonderful Monday and may your bucket overflow with many ways to create lasting memories for your family!
